Cognitive Break Test AKA Putting a Stop to Traffic

Can Traffic Jams be solved? Maybe we are looking at the issue in the wrong way. As we move towards a future with self-driving and autonomous transport, today’s designers and car makers may need to look at if we are creating for “Drivers” or “Passengers”. The Interfaces we use today for our cars and transport provide a lot of information that is not needed or is rarely used properly. We ran a cognitive user test on four drivers to see if there was a universal language or knowledge for “Brake Lights”, one of the leading causes of traffic jams. We might not be able to solve the issue of traffic jams, but considering the future we may not need to. But until we get there, maybe there is something we can do in the meantime.
